Swelling foot is really annoying, painful and even prevents you from doing your daily tasks. It is recommended to get a proper medical check-up because swelling foot can be a symptom of various serious medical conditions like arthritis and nerve circulatory problem. There are few causes of swelling and pain in the feet, arthritis is most common cause for swelling feet. Swelling of the hands and feet or other areas of the body can occur due to abnormal kidney function, kidney diseases, congestive heart failure, protein deficiency, cancer, or sodium retention.

Edema, or swelling of the feet and ankles, is very common particularly towards the end of pregnancy. This occurs because the kidneys have lost its normal functions including to efficiently removing salt and water out of the body. This will in turn cause the body to retain fluid and over time, get accumulated in the body tissues.

The swelling of the feet happens as the day progresses. Normally the one that experiences the most work of balancing you, will also be the one that swells first. Lift ankle so that the leg is straight in front of you on the sofa or on a chair. Place an ice pack, or ice in a plastic bag wrapped in a clean dish towel on the raised ankle.

Once the swelling has gone down you should fill a tub with warm comfortable water. There are footbaths available now that have a whirlpool function. If you really want to pamper your feet, add some Epsom salts or bath salts to the water. You should soak your sore feet for at least thirty minutes.Once you have finished soaking your feet you should lift them out of the water one at a time and scrub them with a gentle soap and bath brush. Wash your feet carefully between the toes and all around.
