Bed Wetting – Kid’s Common Problem

By dennielrick1 at 2010-01-01 00:53:02
Each and every day kid bed wetting happens to many kids. It is known that bed wetting is something very common at a child. Also, in most cases, children that are under the age of eight and have problems in making it to the bathroom at night may be one of several in their class to have this problem. Infrequently, at least, until they are the age of eight (and sometimes older), it is considered normal for a child to wet the bed. If your child’s body just isn’t developed enough to handle this, there may be little that you can do to help.

Bed wetting is not easy for children. They are generally embarrassed about their wetting and find it uncomfortable sleeping in soaked bedding. Some experience a lack of confidence and feel that they will never be able to stay dry. Children generally become experts at covering up their bed-wetting difficulties. They avoid sleepovers with friends and keep bed-wetting out of their playground conversations. Often attending a school camp can be their undoing.

Even healthy kids can develop night time bed wetting, or enuresis, into what appears to be a chronic pattern, absent medical issues or psychological triggers. Some behavioral scientists theorize that this tendency is family-gene based, therefore hereditary in nature. Implications? The future-projection side of the theory suggests that night time bed wetting implies a delayed neurological development in the girl or boy.

In most cases bed wetting is simply caused by a child's "bladder control being slower than normal." It also may be linked to the central nervous system and a "slow maturation" of the nerves and muscles that send the message to the brain that the bladder is full and the child needs to be awakened to empty it. In some cases bed wetting occurs alongside sleep disorders such as nigh terrors and sleepwalking. In some cases it also accompanies snoring and sleep apnea.

You may possibly want to check with your doctor to be sure that your child does not have a kidney or bladder problem, particularly if they are still wetting the bed after the age of five. These problems can be very serious and early detection is of course the best way to prevent any further damage. Remember though, just because your child still wets the bed after age five does not necessarily indicate a problem but it is always better to be safe than sorry and your doctor may be able to give you answers to why your child is still having problems even if there are no underlying medical problems.

You might want to think about using products such as pull ups along with the alarm for a while until your child learns to wake up naturally to the alarm since it might take them some time to get used to.If your child is a heavy sleeper, you may possibly also wish to be sure that the alarm is loud enough for you to be able to hear it so that you can get up and awaken your child to go to the bathroom. Remember also that a bed wetting alarm will need to be reset once it goes off so you can either teach your child how to do this or you can be the one to reset it for them.
